2007.08.01 Short Shorts Summer Program at Ark Hills Started Today!

The Short Shorts Summer Program kicked off at ARK KARAJAN PLACE for their “ARK HILLS CINEMA WEEK” at 7pm today. The screening took place in a huge open area in the middle of a number of towering skyscrapers.

There was a lovely summer feel in the air as people gathered for cold refreshments and light snacks at a nearby cafe.  Seats were instantly filled with office workers and curious passer-bys taking advantage of the free admission.

Festival director Mr. Seigo Tono introduced the program along with the new “Stop! Global Warming Competition” which we hope will raise awareness about the seriousness of global warming to the people of the world.

Audiences were treated with the rare opportunity to screen some of the best short films in the world.  In addition, there was a special screening of “Printed Rainbow”, which won the Grand Prix at this year’s Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia.

The Short Shorts Summer Program will continue until Friday, August 3rd (from 7pm to 9:30pm) so come and enjoy great food, drinks and short  films!

Today was the last day of the 2007 Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Okinawa.  It has been a very successful weekend, and the crowds were eager to catch the last day of screenings.

The theater was packed all day, especially in the afternoon during the Academy Program.  There wasn’t an open seat in sight…people here really love short films!  And who could blame them with the amazing array of films presented by Short Shorts.

The program kicked off with comedian Gori’s second directorial film, “Dick Boogie.”  This film had the audience roaring with laughter with his unique comedic style.  What will he think of next?  Audiences were also able to enjoy other films such as “West Bank Story”, a parody of West Side Story and the tragically humorous “Trevor”.

After the screenings many people lined up to purchase the 2007 Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia catalogue and others headed to the café to chat about their favorite films while snacking on dessert from the Short Shorts Special Menu.

To everyone who supported the Short Shorts Festival in Okinawa and to the people of this great town who helped make this festival possible, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  See you again next year!

Day two of the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Okinawa took place at Sakurazaka Theater, a wonderful venue on top of a hill lined with local shops.  It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and the crowd piled in to screen the Award Program, a collection of award winning films from the 2007 Short Shorts Film Festival.

Audiences were greeted by a friendly staff and led into the cool theater, a relief from the 90 degree weather outside.  This family friendly program included the humorous “Lonely Together”, “Mandarin Ghost”, a serious yet touching film about the love between a young boy and his step mother and much much more!

After the screening, movie goers were able to enjoy a special Short Shorts afternoon snack that included dessert and tea, coffee or wine.  What a treat!

If you’re looking for a place to watch some great short films, then this is the place to be!  The screenings will continue on until Sunday, July 29th so head over to Sakurazaka Theater in the beautiful Okinawa!

Short films in paradise…what more could you ask for?
