Brazilian Seminar
Brazilian Seminar
Many Brazilian film directors are now making their mark on the international stage. Director Walter Salles has a new film, "Linha de passe" competing at the 61st Cannes International Film Festival this year, and "City of God" director, Fernando Meirelles has the honor of his film "Blindness" being chosen for the opening-night film. The two Brazilian directors who have gained huge success in their home country, are now making films in Hollywood as well as in Brazil.

SSFF & ASIA 2008 jury member, Karim Ainouz is a director following in the footsteps of these two great directors and also works both in Brazil and the United States. A co-writer of "Behind the Sun" directed by Walter Salles, Ainouz made his directorial full-length film debut with "Madame Sata". His second feature film "Suely in the Sky" was released in Japan last year. At the seminar, we will show some of the newest short films from Brazil, and discuss with Director Ainouz about visual education, the situation of short films, and the present film industry in Brazil.
