Asia’s largest international short film festival, Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), and Japan’s biggest pop idol group, AKB48 group, have collaborated for the AKB Short Shorts Project. As the first stage of this collaboration, a short film omnibus titled “9 Windows,” consisting of nine ten-minute films, is being produced. As of January 30 (Sat), 2016, the films will be released at Brillia Short Shorts Theater located in Yokohama’s Minatomirai area. The films will then be screened throughout the country as of February 5 (Sat), 2016.
The films range from comedies to more heartfelt films, black comedies and suspense shorts, and cover a range of genres that work together to depict a “one-day miracle.” Each film stars one AKB48 group member. The impressive lineup of co-stars includes Takeru Ohno, Karen Miyama, Kazuki Namioka, Hatsunori Hasegawa and Kazuyuki Aijima. Shooting began in May this year, and the last film wrapped in September.
