2001.07.14Last day.

Photo14 July
I have to thank all our sponsors as we reach this sad last day of the festival. Without them, we wouldn't have the opportunity to have this festival. I have read some of the feedback forms filled out by the audience. They say "Good work"; "Keep it up"; "It's nice to see someone is showing films outside the usually Hollywood stuff"...

The screening went well and sometimes the audience is shy so they often approach the filmmakers after the Q&A session to ask questions.

We end the blast of the week with a simple reception in The SUbstation Garden. There is an array of local finger food and drinks, lots of chatting and goodbyes. Still, we know this is often the beginning of friendships and not the end.

Hurray, a success and much more for next year!!

2001.07.13Another sold out night!

Another sold out night! As organisors we are so pleased and we know the guest filmmakers are happy to see so many of the Singapore audience come and watch their films. The audience laughs and reacts very well to all the films, in addition to applauding enthusiatically to films they favour.

It's always nice to see the films being enjoyed because really, that's what it is all about.

2001.07.12Nomad Evian bottle!

Photo12 July
Every night at the screening, one of our sponsors, Evian, provides us with a really neat and funky sling bag to give out to a member of the audience through a lucky draw.

The audience is really excited about it and also they can't wait to receive the newly launched Nomad Evian bottle.

Tonight the screening is sold out again. Great! There is buzz amongst the audience because there are some local television celebrities in the audience.

A Welcome lunch at The Substation was held for all the filmmakers, committee and visiting media. In an outdoor buffet at The Substation Garden, many of the filmmakers tasted for the first time, various Singapore cuisine.

The Opening Party at Velvet Underground, Zouk was a success, thanks to the committee, filmmakers, sponsors and many supporters of the festival that included local television actors, filmmakers and film buffs.

PhotoThe evening started out with a short video on The Substation, then followed by an acoustic performance by singer /songwriter, Yee Chang Kang from the indie band, The Ordinary People. And we also screened on the films that is showing at the festival, Ohagi/Bean Cake by David Greenspan. One of our sponsors, Evian, also gave out special Evian sling bags and their newly launched Nomad bottled mineral water bottles.Photo

To add to the fun of it all, we had glow-in-the-dark henna tattoes done for guests who wanted to add a cool dimension to their overall outfit.

Everyone in the end was so geared up for the festival screenings which begin tonight!

Can't wait!

July 10, 2001

Today marks the Opening Night of the American Short Shorts in Singapore to
be held at Velvet Underground , Zouk. It'll be very exciting. Filled with
filmmakers, media and people who want to support this event and help see it
happen.

There will be a music performance by Yee Chang Kang, a familiar face in the
local music scene. He is the singer/songwriter for the band The Ordinary
People. In addition, Evian will be giving out 2 of their special sling bags
and their newly launched Nomad bottles in a lucky draw.

Singapore's weather is sunny and warm right now, begging everyone here to
take a dip in the pool. While we await for tonight's party, perhaps a dip
in the cool clear water doesn't sound so bad afterall.

Reports about the party coming soon.
