There will be a special screening of “The Second Bakery Attack” directed by Carlos Cuarón from Mexico who has made many short films. He will also participate in a talk event as special featured guest. Director Cuarón, whose “Rudo y Cursi” was his feature film directorial debut, will discuss short film production and the Mexican Film Industry.

This informative workshop on film production & filmmaking is for those who have interest or work in film production as well for those who enjoy watching short films.

Carlos Cuarón (Filmmaker)Carlos Cuarón was born in Mexico City and studied English Literature there at the UNAM. His first screenplay, Solo con Tu Pareja ("Love in the Time of Hysteria"), directed by his brother Alfonso Cuarón, won a Mexican Ariel Award for Best Original Story. In 2001, Carlos received Oscar and BAFTA nominations for Best Original Screenplay for the breakout hit Y Tu Mamá También. The wildly successful film won the Best Original Screenplay Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and was a box office success. In 2002, Carlos penned El Misterio de Trinidad, directed by José Luis García Agraz, garnering more Ariel nominations.

In addition to features, Carlos has written and directed eight short films. He is an accomplished playwright and short story author.

Rudo y Cursi marked Carlos’s feature directorial debut. The film, reuniting Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and was distributed internationally.

Lucas Akoskin (Producer)Lucas Akoskin has been producing diverse projects such as feature and short films, music videos, live concerts and large scale events for over a decade. He began his career as an actor on Argentine television. Upon moving to New York City in 2001, he produced and starred in the mockumentary The Doorman. Developed with Gigantic Pictures, the breakout film showcased Lucas as actor, writer and producer. The film played at several esteemed film festivals before opening nationwide in the United States.

Lucas produced the documentary The Disappeared (2008), directed by Peter Sanders and winner of the top prize at Montreal International Film Festival. The film was shown in theaters in Latin America and was broadcast in the US by the History Channel.

Lucas produced a series of shorts with acclaimed Latin American talent, including Guillermo Arriaga, Jorge Furtado, Leonardo Bechini and Andí Baíz. The films screened at several international film festivals and were released theatrically in Latin America.
