2025.06.03
On June 1, 2025, the “J-WAVE SOUND OF CINEMA AWARD Special Screening Event” and “K-SHORT Special Screening” were held at the Takanawa Gateway City venue.
■ J-WAVE SOUND OF CINEMA AWARD Special Screening Event
This program started with a talk by festival representative Tetsuya Bessho. The “J-WAVE SOUND OF CINEMA AWARD” is presented to short film works where “sound” elements such as music, songs, voices, sounds, and instruments play unique and effective roles.
The award-winning work “Varya’s Adventure (Atom & Void)” (directed by Gonçalo Almeida) was screened, along with five other nominated works selected by 100 J-WAVE listeners.
Even without dialogue, these were wonderful works that conveyed stories through music and sound effects alone, showcasing the creators’ amazing imagination!

■ K-SHORT Special Screening
In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea, Korean short films were specially screened, featuring captivating stories starring renowned actors.
“In October” Director: O Jun Kwon / Starring: Lim Young Woong
A music drama starring singer Lim Young Woong. With the theme that “although the number varies from person to person, all humans live with small holes in their hearts,” this was a new form of visual expression where music functioned as the core of the story.
“Will You Come Up?” Director: Ho-seung Son / Starring: Kim Ji Woong
A horror work featuring Kim Ji Woong. The protagonist’s conflict—a prestigious university graduate working as a security guard—was effectively conveyed in just 20 minutes, keeping viewers glued to the screen until the end.
“A Peaceful Mind Is Not Stillness” Director/Starring: Yoo Jun Sang
A mockumentary directed by and starring Yoo Jun Sang, popular from “Serendipity’s Embrace.” The story follows someone seeking peace of mind in Mongolia after completing grueling filming. The desert journey of self-discovery felt very real and deeply relatable.
■ Yoo Jun Sang Talk Session
After the screening, Yoo Jun Sang took the stage for a talk session. With fans in the audience watching, he passionately shared behind-the-scenes stories and his thoughts on Japan-Korea cultural exchange, making it a wonderful event befitting the 60th anniversary.

SSFF&ASIA 2025 continues until June 11. Please continue to enjoy the world of short films!
