KOKIRIKO -The Ancient Japanese Folk Song-
Online
The people living in Japan’s Gokayama region continue to lead traditional lives amidst rich nature.
One of the traditions passed down in this region is "Kokiriko," said to be Japan's oldest folk song.
"Kokiriko" is believed to have originated from a ritual to pray for a bountiful harvest, and its song and dance express gratitude and prayers for the cycle of life that brings forth crops.
In the video, Mr. Iwasaki of the Kokiriko Preservation Society says that by visiting Gokayama, one can feel the breath of life.
