At the talk session of the Screening in Autumn on Oct.25, the director of I See You ! , Briar March expressed her gratitude, saying,
“I’m truly honored to be here. Thank you so much for having me.”

The film is a deeply personal story inspired by the director’s own life.
She shared that the birth of her child with Down syndrome became the catalyst for this project.
“I had worked on documentaries about disability before, but when my own child was born,
I finally understood what it means to see the world as a parent in that situation,” she reflected.
Through the film, she depicts the process of fear, confusion, acceptance, and rediscovery as a mother.
“My son taught me how to see the world differently,” she said.
“This film is dedicated to all parents and children — a reminder that every life has its own rhythm and beauty.”

Shot in New Zealand, the film was made possible through a combination of crowdfunding and government funding,
supported by the New Zealand Film Commission. The director emphasized the importance of
filmmaking communities and mutual support among creators.
The lead role was played by Ann March, a 23-year-old actor chosen through an online audition.
“Although she had no experience as a mother, she quickly found the emotional depth of the role
through our rehearsals and time spent together,” the director shared.

When asked about her next project, she revealed,
“I’m currently developing a new hybrid documentary titled Memento Mori.
It combines realism with a touch of magical realism — a new challenge I’m very excited about.”
Her words closed the session with heartfelt applause from the audience.
