To commemorate the Yokohama Festival of French Film's 10th anniversary, the SSFF asked Valerie Duvauchelle to stop by, screen
a few shorts and talk about short films. Valerie, a producer in her own right, screened several well-known shorts including
'La Vis,' starring Jean Reno, 'Compromis' starring Vincent Cassel, and 'Le Puits.' Valerie has produced ten short films herself,
and is currently active in the filmmaking industry in Japan.
"In France there are about 400-600 short films made annually. About 10 percent of those films are publicly viewed. Many filmmakers
band together and make films for as little as possible. They are well-supported by a number of agencies, and they can often get
equipment and other services for very little or even free. And some filmmakers are fortunate to get involved with a famous
filmmaker or actor whose name helps them get their film recognized. Which is another reason, I think, why the quality of films
in France is so high."
