Fri., 06/18, 15:30 - Asia International & Japan program C. "The Queen" is in the house!

Director Aki Miyamoto of "A Sweet Chamber Music" tells
the audience that the idea of the story came from her own
experience with her mother.

Hey peoples.

Heading into the final 3 days of the fest. Today's 15:30 screening of shorts from Asia & Japan drew a great crowd. Christina Choe of "The Queen" took a bow at the beginning of the program. The film is a cute & bittersweet story of a lonely teenager who holds his own "prom" while working at his parents' cleaners. The short is very well-executed with a quite finely-tuned performance from the young lead who plays Bobby. Bravo to Christina for a fine film.

Aki Miyamoto took part in the Q&A & revealed that her own great-grandmother's gradual loss of memory drew her to this story & the resulting short has a pace that's both French & Japanese and contains a quiet dignity both in the performances & the film in general. Environmental, comedy, thought-provoking, & bittersweet. All these chqracteristics & styles converge in 1 program, a norm at this film festival!

Don't go away.
