[REPORT] WE’RE BACK! FINAL WEEK STARTS IN FUTAKO-TAMAGAWA.- ITSCOM HALL, RISE, FUTAKO-TAMAGAWA DAY 1, 06/21 -
For our final week of the festival, we’ve moved to the very popular suburban city of Futako-Tamagawa in western Tokyo. We’ve ended our run here the last few years & it’s always a great pleasure to return here.
We started the day with the WAR & THE POWER TO LIVE PROGRAM – 2, supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Director Michelle Kee brought her colorist/photographer from Canada to represent her film “SEND US SMOKES,” a wonderful musical short about young Adelaide who will do anything to send her father who is fighting in the front during WWI, a box of cigarettes. Michelle told the audience that she won in a competition & was given the budget to make the film, ¥10,000 & the casting services of a local, professional casting company where she found her young leading lady to portray Adelaide. We were excited to receiver her submission, a rare, musical short with a war theme.
Our 3rd program of the day, the ASIANA INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAM FROM KOREA, once again saw festival programmer KRISTIN JI come out talk about the festival
& selected shorts from AISFF 2017. Among the selections was “JURY” starring AISFF president & Korean film star SUNG-KI AHN in a story about a film festival jury! There was too much in this comedy that was so close to true that it was uncomfortable to watch yet very very funny.
Our 2nd program was our special event, “TEAM MANRIKI presents THE FUTURE OF SHORT FILMS. Please find the report for this event in a separate report.
