kusarabi

With Kusarabi, I wanted to create a song that sounds as though it belongs to yokai—the strange supernatural beings of Japanese folklore. It is a song about the human world, sung from somewhere just outside it. The lyrics combine Japanese, invented words, and archaic-sounding expressions, allowing meaning to slip between recognizable language and unfamiliar sounds.
The banquet in the lyrics becomes a miniature society. Appearances are maintained while things decay; responsibility is passed around, and the portions are unevenly shared. I wanted to explore these habits through grotesque humor rather than a direct moral lesson. The disturbing part is not that monsters exist, but that their behavior feels familiar.
My background in experimental music shapes how I approach moving images. Rhythm, repetition, texture, and interruption matter as much as narrative. I approach generative AI as a creative material to direct and reshape, with unexpected results becoming possibilities to select and develop.
Rather than making every image explain a lyric, I wanted music, language, and images to unsettle one another. I hope viewers are first drawn in by the song, then left wondering whether they are merely watching this strange gathering—or already taking part in it.

Minima

MINIMA is a Japan-based artist, composer, and filmmaker working across experimental music, AI-assisted animation, and digital art. With a background in experimental music, MINIMA brings sound and moving images together as parts of a single creative practice. The work combines psychedelic imagery, dreamlike pop-anime aesthetics, and fragmented sonic textures. Beneath an inviting pop surface, familiar forms become distorted, unstable, or unexpectedly strange. Through music videos and experimental films, MINIMA develops a personal visual and sonic language that balances deliberate composition with the unexpected possibilities of generative AI.
