On Yonaguni, Japan’s westernmost island, sixth-grader Junnei lives with his father, caring for Yonaguni horses. As the island language fades, he struggles to connect with Fuchi, his late mother’s horse. Through daily life, shifting island winds, and memories of his mother, Junnei slowly begins to grow.

Aika Higashimori

Aika Higashimori is from Yonaguni Island, Okinawa. She graduated from Kyoto University of the Arts, Department of Film. Her film Bachiranun, which she directed and starred in, won the Grand Prize at the Pia Film Festival 2021. She works internationally as an actor and filmmaker and promotes the preservation of the Yonaguni language.
