Byoung-gon Moon

Moon Byung-gon is a highly acclaimed South Korean filmmaker recognized for his sharp cinematic insight and innovative approach to storytelling. He first gained international attention in 2011 when his film, Finis Operis, was invited to the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival.

Moon made history in 2013 by becoming the first Korean director to win the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival with his film, Safe. His creative excellence was further recognized in 2015 when he was selected as a Winner of the Lexus Short Films project, a high-profile global initiative presented in association with The Weinstein Company.

In 2024, Moon expanded his expertise into feature-length commercial cinema by participating in the adaptation (Screenplay Adaptation) of the action thriller film Escape (Talju). Most recently, his collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company, the short film Night Fishing, won the Grand Prix in Entertainment at the 2025 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This achievement solidifies his reputation as a pioneering creator who seamlessly navigates between international film circuits and innovative branded content.
