Construction and setup for the Okinawa Short Shorts Film Festival started in the middle of a typhoon that was raging through the area. Catching the action on tape was a lone cameraman, Mr. Go Seisei, who works often with director Chen Kaiko. Wonder what the footage will show…?

18:00 Opening Ceremony Okinawa

Despite the horrible weather, which forced air traffic to and from Okinawa to either be halted or redirected, the opening ceremony reception went off without a hitch. The opening party, officially called "Okinawa Festival Week Opening Ceremony," was named in part because another film festival and sub-event was taking place at the same time, the JCF Student Film Festival, the JCF Asia Film Forum and the World Commercial (CM) Film Festival.

"I'd like Okinawa to be the birthplace of a lot of new talent," said JCF Asia Film Forum Producer, Lucas Schwarzacher said. Other members of of JCF, such as Mr. Jean-Christian (J.C.) Bouvier, the producer of the Commercial Film Festival who arrived late because of the typhoon.
In fact, Mr. Bouvier's plane was not only late, but redirected to Fukuoka before finally getting the green light to get back in the air and fly to Okinawa. "Riding that plane in the typhoon was like riding a motorcycle." This is the second year that Bouvier has attended the film festival in Okinawa and said that it's getting better each time.
