“Mother of the Groom” Tsukasa Kishimoto/Okinawa

This film has a concept of 'journey' in which a girl from Tokyo, 'center' of Japan, travels to a small island of south and experience the absurdity. Even in a same country, if people live in the different area, experiemce and information which people had, doesn't work anymore. This film is about that a girl from cosmoplitan comes to the small island to get the permission about her marriage with local man and to try to communicate with local people with a sense of black humour. I could say it is 'black' humour, but the concept of this film is to promote Okinawa tourims so it could be entertainingt to depict the colourful scenery and characteristic tradition of Okinawa. In directing, I tried to depict the distance of people leads the distance of culture, at the same time, the distance of relation also effects the relationship itself. I hope that characters in this film find small delight while experiencing the common with others, audience itself find the 'encounter' which is one of the joy in travel.

Tsukasa was born in Nago in 1968, and attended Tokyo Eizo Geijutsu Gakuin. In 2001, he directed & wrote the screenplayes of "Bokyaku no Rakuen" (Forgotten Paradise) in 2005, "Akokuro" in 2007.
