When I ask myself how I want to be, even something as simple as saying “I want to be kind” already carries a sense of social expectation. Thinking instead, at a more fundamental level, about how I truly wish to exist—thinking with my body rather than with words—I sense a warm, pink light emerging from around my abdomen. I want to dance while radiating that light, and I want everyone to gather, each person flickering with their own diverse light, and spin together in dance.
I turned that sensation into a song, danced it, filmed it, and then traced the dance once more with paint, as if dancing again. The abstraction of the way I wish to exist wraps life in a warm sense of joy.

(58 participants in “ShiShi Yamazaki’s Drawing Workshop” were invited to freely contribute, each in their own style, to the illustration as it developed.)
