The film is rooted in real experiences. Many of the people involved in the project have lived through aspects of what the film explores, which gave it a very personal foundation. I was also inspired by the idea of what “family honour” means across different cultures, and how that concept can both protect and harm. I wanted to explore the tension between love and control within a family unit.
