[Report] June 11th / SHIDAX Culture Hall
2015-06-11

We are back screening in Shidax Culture Hall at Shibuya!

I’m very excited to screen shorts for official competition.
We screened International Competition C, Asia International & Japan Competition G, Canne Program, and Fashion Short Program.

In screening of International Competition C, Director Keiran Watson-Bonnice from “Caravan”greeted the audience.
He shared about how he does not like to set up everything, like situations and lines,  before shooting. He rather let kids do what they feel or like to do, and pick up the parts that goes along the story. He also mentioned that two kids in the short are his son and nephew, and he’s willing to put more of his own thoughts and views in future shorts.

And in Asia International & Japan Competitions, we had 5 guest greeting the audience.
Director Chun Wong from “Good Take”,
Director Keisuke Hakomori and Chabetaro Ishizaki from “Barrier”,
Director Yoshiaki Sajima and Yoshihide Ogasawara from “It Cannot Move”.

We had an audience asking question about Director Wong’s career, adding “I was surprised because you are so young”, Wong shared his career and what he had studied in the university. What I found out interesting is he made his own filming company right after his graduation, and now he has script writers to work with. He just filmed and is finishing up his first feature this autumn, I’m looking forward to see more of his work!
And Director Hakomori shared that he made the short out of his real experience. He wanted to help a man on a wheelchair, but was refused, and started to think about hard times that man must had gone through. Please also check out how Ishizaki put his spirit into the roll.

Director Sajima was inspired to make a short when he watched a stage of “It Cannot Move”. All the casts in the short are from the stage, of course including Ogasawara.

And audience asked “What do you think is a difference between stage and short?”, and each guest shared their opinions, which were very interesting.

This would be it for today, but I would like to add, that Canne and Fashion programs were extremely fascinating.
The shorts were just great to end the day :)
