Spotlight Award

Akiyoshi Nakao

Born on June 30th, 1988, Nakao first gained recognition for his performance in the drama "GOOD LUCK!!" and would eventually go on to appear in the drama "ROOKIES" among other TV dramas, movies, and variety shows. He has regular hosting duties on the TV Tokyo program "Super GT Plus" and will soon star in the stage production "Tumbling" amd the films "Tokyo Nanmin" and "Ore-tachi no Ashita".

Written and Directed by Akiyoshi Nakao Nakao's first work as a director and writer, the film had its debut at a fan event. Having proven himself as an actor, Nakao aimed to be able to make a film. The short follows a young man who, hoping to be more popular with women, follows the advice of a friend and his emails.

Special Mention Award

Naomi Kawase

Born in Nara Prefecture, Kawase graduated from Visual Arts College Osaka, with her film "Suzaku" winning the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, becoming the youngest director to win the award. Her later films, including "Hotaru", "Shara", and "Tarachime" would also win a number of awards at film festivals, with one of her feature length films, "The Mourning Forest", winning the Grand Prix at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. In 2008 a collection of her earlier documentaries was released in addition to her film "Nanayomachi". Since 2010 she has acted as the executive director for the Nara International Film Festival.
