A film documenting Hirokazu Kore-eda, the winner of Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival and a dear friend of mine who I've known for over 20 years. This story follows the journey of his film reaching out to many people in Cannes, Okinawa, Chigasaki and creating a new story from these seaside towns.

Marielle Franco, a Brazilian politician, LGBT and human-rights activist, was killed in March 2018. While coming to terms with the death of her partner, Monica Benicio continues the fight to give a voice to those who are deemed disposable in Brazil: women, the poor, the LGBT community, and black Brazilians.

Liminality & Communitas

Laura Rantanen/10:20/Finland/Non-Fiction/2018

After sunset, a man wanders between the edges of the highways and freeways gathering edible dead animals hit by cars. Liminality & Communitas is an experimental documentary short film about the utilization of roadkill animals. The film investigates the border between life and death and the edges of the manmade world.

Osama & Ayman

Sam Price-Waldman, Chris Cresci & Ben Mullinkosson/7:40/USA/Non-Fiction/2018

Osama and Ayman Abdeldayem are brothers, skateboarders, entrepreneurs, Americans, and Muslims. As they skate through the streets of Washington, D.C., they navigate growing Islamophobia with characteristic style and humor.

Rainbow Children: Portrait of Elika

Maryam Bayani/12:33/Belgium/Non-Fiction/2018

Elika explains that people in Iran like five things above all: rice, the sun, ice cream, fish and tulips. She gives a presentation on Iran in a Belgian school, which includes a Persian poem she translates into French. Elika talks differently all of a sudden, and something strange playfully becomes familiar.
